How to Make Coffee at Home: AeroPress

A Step-by-Step Guide to Brewing the Perfect Cup

Looking for a quick and easy way to make delicious coffee at home? The AeroPress is a favorite among coffee lovers for its smooth, rich flavor and versatility. Whether you're a beginner or a coffee enthusiast, this guide will help you master the AeroPress using two popular brewing methods: the Classic (Upright) Method and the Inverted Method.

Why Choose an AeroPress?

The AeroPress was invented in 1984 by Alan Adler, a renowned inventor and retired Stanford University engineering instructor. It brews coffee in just a couple of minutes, resulting in lower acidity and less bitterness than other methods. Thanks to its micro-filters, the AeroPress delivers a clean, flavorful cup with more clarity than a French press. Plus, its compact and durable design makes it an excellent choice for travel, camping, or brewing at home.

What You’ll Need

AeroPress Classic or AeroPress Go

18 grams (or 2 level tablespoons) of Onda Origins coffee

Hot water (just below boiling, around 195–205°F or 90–96°C)

Micro-filters (included in kit) or a reusable filter

How to Brew: Classic (Upright) Method

Prepare your AeroPress: Rinse it with hot water, flush a filter in the cap, and screw the cap onto the chamber.

Add coffee: Place the chamber on a sturdy mug or vessel and add 18 grams of medium-fine ground coffee.

Pour hot water: Fill to the highest notch on the chamber.

Stir: Stir back and forth about three times to ensure even saturation.

Create a seal: Insert the plunger just enough to create a slight seal and let it sit for about 1 minute.

Stir again: Remove the plunger and stir three more times.

Press: Replace the plunger and press down slowly over 30 seconds.

Enjoy: Remove the AeroPress, add more water or milk if desired, and enjoy your coffee!

How to Brew: Inverted Method

Prepare your AeroPress: Rinse it with hot water and flush a filter in the cap.

Assemble: Insert the plunger into the chamber, flip the AeroPress upside down, and add 18 grams of ground coffee.

Bloom the coffee: Add just enough hot water to cover the grounds and let them bloom for 30 seconds.

Add more water & stir: Fill the chamber with more water and stir until all grounds are soaked.

Attach the filter cap: Screw on the cap with the pre-rinsed filter.

Flip & press: Carefully flip the AeroPress onto a mug or vessel, wait 45 seconds, and press the plunger down slowly over 30 seconds.

Enjoy: Remove the AeroPress, add water or milk if desired, and savor your cup of coffee!
